Limited edition sets by Penguin

Below is the set of The James Bond Modern Classics. The design is driven by the bold typography and the single colored photography in the backgrounds. The book covers are very eye catching because of the contrast of the type and image and as a result work well as a set together.

The Nick Hornby collection is driven by a repeated vector shapes in the background with typography layed out to fit in between the layers of the vectors. I think the colours work well together and they have a fun feel to them. This reflects the authors personality, as his books consist of the funny side of problems of ordinary people in todays world.

Bill Ambergs collection has these beautiful leather-bound set of books. They have their own unique feel to them and make them stand out from other books by Penguin

At x-mas 2008 Penguin released 13 limited edition art-designed book sets for the festive season. 5 out of the 13 cook came with limited edition posters. I think this is a good way to get book-lovers to buy the books and then decorate their walls with posters of their favourite books.

Evaluation of research:
1. Design needs to be consistant in orger for them to work as a set.
2. Colour is imporant. Colour needs to contrast well together on an indvidual book as well as part of the set.
3. The book cover design can't give away too much, but a teaser of what the book is about.
4. Doing something different, like the Billy Amberg books will definately make my book stand out.
