Exisiting HG Wells Book covers

These existing book cover design for HG Wells all look a bit traditional with paintings and black and white imagery. They are dull and would not appeal to a young audience at all. I think this is the reason why the brief wants a more modern approach to the book cover design to attract a younger audience. Ive never read one of HG Wells book but im sure they are good.

The competition
A few students have had a go at this brief. I like the style of these covers, they are all made different from the colours and the simple patterns. The design is consistant and they work really well as a set.

Another student took a different approach by using photography and collage using hand rendered typography. These covers were done by a art and design student. They still look a bit gloomy and i would definately pick up the ones above if these were on a shelf together. This has made me realise the colours and visual impact of book covers really make a difference.
