Proud Glasgow Limited Edition poster

A limited edition poster designed at the Glasgow school of art. The opaque paper stock works really well against the shocking red and bright white design. It contrasts really well together and i'm guessing this poster has been screen printed as in the body text it said they were given these posters away at an event they help. Screen printing would have been the easiest and quickest way to produce these freebees!

Limited edition pantone poster

I thought this is a lovely limited edition poster. Even though its a promotion for Christmas i think it is visually interesting because from a distance it looks like little squares/spots but as you get closer they all have their own little meaning. They have also been packaged individually which makes them look the part.

Sanda Zahirovic

Really interesting, unique and the most innovative book cover design i've seen so far. Lovely 3D paper cut outs relevant to each title of the books, executed by photographing and printing off in 2D. They all work really well as a set and the black and white contrasts really well and these are probably mt favourite.

Design Project

The design Project, a Leeds based company have produced some lovely work with really nice finishes and it has made me more aware of the context of my work.

It has also made me be more aware of how identity can be taken on other things.

Studio Juice

EVERYBODY’S is a new creative media group that manage some of the leading artists in the music industry. They created an identity which was a large black speech bubble with the company name inside it. I think it works because of the boldness and simplicity of it.

Their bold and simple logo design can be seen throughout all their work. Below are a few more examples and how they are applied in context.

Identity for:

A Scandinavian Restaurant
A rich red has been used for the identity, i can just imagine what the menus looked like. It interesting to see the identity appear on the pay desk as a grey but it still works quiet well.

Victoria Coren, a Broadcaster and Writer.
A lovely condensed typeface working well together with quite a sophisticated pattern. In the description about this identity, it says she has written two books and also presents shows on various radio stations and is a poker player. I think the identity reflects her personality of being quiet clever and talented with what she does.

Almost Modern

I have been following this website for a while now. They have some really lovely pieces of simple design which works really well.

Just woke up
A poster that we made in 2007. With the coloration of the paper we wanted to make the text visible over time. Therefore we silkscreened white text on off-white paper. After three years and some sunlight the text clearly becomes readable.

A lovely single colour identity for Suzanne Loen.

Hip Hop huis Identity

Rob Brearley

Other work by the designer of the RGB studio.
All the work i have found below are all design, process and concept driven briefs. They all use different techniques which work really well on all the printed material. This has been an eye opener for me that there is more to design than just ink!

Identity and Promotional material for DigitalMill
DigitalMill, a web production company which promises to deliver a direct digital production service, cutting out the middle man. The combing lines are an integral part of the identity, illustrating the fluidity, speed and accuracy of their internal workflow. The patterns change in complexity and scale, running through all printed material and accross the interior design of their new premises.

The SubCulture Identity and Promotion
The SubCulture is a club and live performance space for diverse underground musical tastes. This simple typographic route uses a triangle as a positioning device, creating several cost effective fly posting opportunities.

Urban Picnic Identity and Promotion
Ant and blanket pattern graphics are used to interperet the common picnic in this event brochure for Architecture Week. Using architecture stencils as the basis for the typography, the brochure has contrasting colours which reflect building

Creamfields Bible
With leather debossed covers and three seperate fluro sections, the 'bible' documents the success of Creamfields events worldwide, The book is held together with a single lanyard.

The Advanced Digital Institute is an independent research and development institute based in West Yorkshire focused on becoming an international centre of excellence. The optical nature of the ADI logo reflects their work, in contrast the spacious photography brings a human element to the brand. The dot matrix grid is carried through the stationery range and printed materials, underpinning everything they do.

KSwiss-Moulton Campaign
Highscore with Moulton, takes a nostalgic look at tennis herriage and retro game aesthetics. Based on iconic computer game graphics, Moulton challenges it's core audience to a game of Pong, resurrecting a cult game and building a cult brand.

RGB studio

Firstly i would like to comment on the layout of this designer, Rob Brearleys's website. It is very clear and contemporary and it is very easy to find things. This is something i need to consider when i design my website.

Volume 1 is the first book by Richard Moran, an award winning photographer based in leeds. Richard works internationally on fashion, food, music and arts driven projects. The limited edition book documents his photographic direction over the past few years, focusing primarily on people, movement and observation.

The book comprises of three high gloss image sections and three uncoated text sections, the piece is printed in full colour, notes and camera details are printed in a metallic ink on black Kaskad uncoated stock. Each section is open sewn to the next and wrapped in a debossed PVC orange jacket for protection.

After creating the book Rob developed his existing identity and typographic treatment. The information system has become a replicated device which is now common across all his communications, using a clear foil stamp on an uncoated surface (wherever possible), creating a lens which you are forced to read through. The development was the result of the collaborative work on the Richard Moran book project.

From this project i can clearly see that the designer definitely knows what he is doing. He has a good knowledge and understanding of print processes of what to use and where to use it where its appropriate. I think the fact that he has a good relationship with his client really shows how you can push design to the next level to achieve beautiful design like this.

Evolution Print

These guys look like a good source to contact for printing.

Bunch Design

Below are a few identittes which have been desinged by Bunch Design in the past 5 years. The use of serif and sans serif typefaces have been used and applied in contemporary ways to create successful logo designs. I think all of these work really well and they could as a result be used on range of different media.

EE May 2009*

This was a festival Identity. In this typographic campaign, the word "May" was incorporated into playful slogans and highlighted along with the letter "e" which emphasized the identity within the message.

The bright colours and the concept of using the word may has really worked well with his design. The 2-colour graphics could also mean this would be cheap to print.

TEN

The limited edition of 300 books entitled "TEN" after Milton Glaser’s essay "Ten Things I Have Learned", showcases a cross section of paper stocks available from the paper merchant, Igepa-Plana, with beautifully illustrated statements enveloping the pages.

I think this a lovely piece of design experimenting with typography. The folds are different and makes this book interactive and the foiling on the front works well on the big bold typography.
